How do you define Harm Reduction?
“A set of plans that supports people to reduce harm to themselves and their communities, through the sharing of related information, facts, and helpful material tools, that will allow them to make learned and informed decisions. It knows the skill of their efforts to protect themselves, their loved ones and their communities.” (Harm Reduction Considered and Applied)
Some examples of Harm Reduction:
Needle exchange or distribution program-Aims to prevent the spread of HIV/Hepatitis C by exchanging used needles for new ones or distribution of supplies
Condoms/Safer Sex Supplies-Aims to prevent the spread of STIs, and HIV by providing a barrier to prevent the exchange of bodily fluid between partners
Seat belts, helmets, smoke detectors, and immunizations are also forms of harm reduction
