The Play It Safer Network is a community based network located in northern Manitoba. Our goal  is to implement a community based (Northern Manitoba/Saskatchewan) strategy to address STBBIs (sexually transmitted/blood borne infections) and Harm Reduction through education, prevention, treatment, and medical and social supports

Our goal will be achieved by:

  • Making a communication strategy to promote and market the Play It Safer Network and the HIV/AIDS, STI, Hepatitis C, and Harm Reduction resources that are available

  • Implement and maintain an education program on HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and STIs targeting youth

  • Identifying (compile, publish, distribute) a community resource list related to education and awareness, testing, treatment, medical supports, social supports, palliative care, & gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and two-spirited people

  • To improve services for individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C

The Network welcomes anyone who lives in northern Manitoba/Saskatchewan and is living with, affected by, or has an interest in issues related to HIV/AIDS, STIs, Hepatitis C, and Harm Reduction.  The Network strives to have broad representation from all communities and sectors.

Way Back When...

The Northern AIDS Network now known as the Play It Safer Network was formed in 1992. Although the name had changed, the goals of the Network continue to stay the same.  Some of these goals include: providing awareness and educational information on HIV/AIDS, STIs, and Hepatitis C, addressing needs to improve the social supports for people living with, or affected by HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C, and to continue the communication strategy to maintain and promote partnerships throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan to address these needs.  The Network continues to grow and would not have accomplished so much without the support of our membership-47 members and growing.  Some of our achievements have been:

  • Annual HIV/AIDS Awareness Week/World AIDS Day Community Awareness & Media Campaign
  • Annual Hepatitis Awareness Month Community Awareness & Media Campaign
  • Development of "UnWANTED" Graphic Novel, Drama Production and Related Resources
  • Community Campaigns-Trapper's Festival, Trout Festival, and Summer Campaigns
  • Distribution of safer sex kits in local service provider locations, educational institutions, and bars/lounges
  • Providing educational presentations on sexual health and youth related issues
  • Building Community Around Hepatitis C Project
